VP (Vijaya Laxmi Pandit) Model United Nations
(After India gained independence in 1947, Vijaya Lakshmi Pandit served as one of India's prominent diplomats. She became India's first woman ambassador and held important diplomatic posts, including serving as India's ambassador to the United States (1949–1951) and the United Nations (1953–1961)).
1. Objective: The VP (Vijaya Laxmi Pandit) Model United Nations, organized annually in the third week of June by the Prof. Shamnad Basheer Centre for First Generation Lawyers, aims to provide a platform for aspiring diplomats and future leaders to engage in meaningful discussions, simulate international diplomacy, and enhance their understanding of global issues.
2. Eligibility:
The Model United Nations is open to students from universities and institutions worldwide.
Participants can register individually or as a delegation representing a country or organization.
All participants must adhere to the rules and regulations set forth by the organizers.
3. Registration:
Participants must complete the registration process through the official website of the Prof. Shamnad Basheer Centre for First Generation Lawyers.
Detailed participant information, including name, institution, and contact details, must be submitted within the specified registration period.
Late registrations will not be accepted.
4. Committees and Agendas:
The Model United Nations will comprise multiple committees, each focusing on specific global issues.
Detailed agendas and background guides for each committee will be provided to registered participants in advance.
5. Simulation and Debate:
Participants will represent assigned countries or organizations in committee sessions.
Delegates are expected to engage in constructive debate, negotiation, and resolution drafting to address the committee's agenda.
6. Rules of Procedure:
Debates will be conducted following the rules of procedure established by the Model United Nations format.
Participants must adhere to parliamentary decorum and etiquette during committee sessions.
7. Awards and Recognition:
Outstanding delegates and delegations will be recognized and awarded at the closing ceremony.
Awards will be based on factors such as research, public speaking, negotiation skills, and contributions to resolution drafting.
8. Prizes and Perks:
Best Delegation- Rs. 4,500/-
High Commendation- Rs. 3,500/-
Special Mention- Rs.1,500/-
4. Best Position Paper- Rs. 3,000/-
All the participants will receive a Certificate of Participation.
9. Code of Conduct:
Participants are expected to treat fellow participants, organizers, and adjudicators with respect and professionalism.
Any form of disruptive behavior or violation of rules may result in disqualification.
10. Disclaimer:
The Prof. Shamnad Basheer Centre for First Generation Lawyers reserves the right to modify the schedule, committee topics, or other aspects of the Model United Nations as necessary.
